Do you happen to know if the car downloads will be free or will cost something? I've been looking around online and haven't been able to find anything about that...

pay for, that's why the game is cheaper than normal

Aye, it'll probably cost $5 or so per car.
Also, this sucks cause I don't know if you guys have played the demo on XBox Live or whatnot but the cars and motorcycles handled like bloody fucking boats... on land.... while on fire... with dead elephants on them. Yes, it was that bad.
Also, the speeds were all very wrong... it felt artifically balanced so regardless of what car you had you would always be competitive. Of course, that is if you could drive more than 10 seconds without crashing/understeering off a cliff. Even at very low speeds the cars felt like sluggish .... slugs, actually.

Ok, I guess that makes sense.
I played the demo on the 360 and the only car I had any fun with was the F430. The Mustang and AC were each just too slow. The F430 was fast but it took me a good 10 minutes or so to get the hang of driving without crashing. The motorcycle however...seemed almost impossible to drive without crashing, but it felt so incredibly fast. That bike just didn't want to turn at all.
The driving experience/effects/whatever, were about what I expected for a Test Drive game - Test Drive has never really been all that great at realistic racing games - I'm sure it'll be fun however. I'll buy the game when I can get it cheaper than $40.

I actually prefer to drive the slower cars like the mustang.

I played the demo and thought it was fun. Yeah, the handling wasn't very good, but I was expecting a lot worse. They did a pretty good job on the sounds for the motorcycle, but I thought the f430 could have been better (it seemed a little rough). When I pre reserved the game, it came with a code to download a free gallardo in the game.

I spent a bit of time driving all the cars/motorcycles in the demo and I've come to the conclusion that.... the developers did not know what the hell they wanted to do with the physics.
It feels like a cross between realism (the huge amount of understeer etc. etc.) and arcade and it all feels wrong. You can't predict any of the cars at all and the bikes is utterly useless. It's not nimble enough to avoid anything in a straight line and you'll never see a corner, either, cause you'll crash ten times before getting to one (exaggeration, yes, but really...)... it has its gimmicks but in the end the whole core of the game is flawed.
Which sucks,

So....how does this differ from recent/(most) iterations of the Test Drive series?

I've never played a previous Test Drive game and I wasn't comparing it to ap revious Test Drive game.
Hell, I was just saying what I thought of TDU... and I think it's very awesome in what you can do in it but when it comes to the actual game it's just frustrating and not worth the price or time.
I've always hated the Test Drive series...bring on a Gran Turismo with liscensed Ferraris, Lambos, McLarens, and Porsches...wait they don't need Porsche...they have Ruf.

Oh, you fucker, you're doing the referral code thing right? When you exchange the codes, do both of you get each car or do you have to choose one of them?
