It looks as if Toyota Racing will produce the Lexus LF-A supercar concept, first previewed here on PistonHeads – see related story link below. It's due by 2008, according to Autocar, and will make its production debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2007.

The two-seater supercar is powered by what Lexus at the time called "a high-output V10 engine" and was first previewed at the Tokyo Motor Show last year. Since then, the reaction to it has been so positive that the Japanese car maker was persuaded to put it into production.

To be called the GT500, and likely to house the 500bhp 5.0-litre V10 that was in the concept, it will, at last, provide a suitable vessel into which Toyota can pour its hard- and expensively-won F1 expertise. There may also be a V8 version – the GT450 costing some £75,000 while the GT500 is likely to lighten your wallet by a whisker under £100,000.

Autocar reckons that Honda's announcement of the new NSX last year was the prod it needed to turn this concept into reality.

Wow, is it me or has this car gotten some 750% uglier since the last time it was posted on DS?

F1 expertise? Judging from this current season that involves a lot of talk and no go. State of the art aerodynamics my ass...

Those tires are soo skinny, especially for a rwd v10 sporty type car.
Mr b00st
bad, bad pictures of a pretty, pretty car.
Randle2I
meh, who cares.

I think it has potential to be a really nice car...I wonder if this is a way for Toyota to enter the...um...I dont know what its called...but its that Japanise race series...Japanise Super Cup?

Im sure the Supras are getting long in the tooth...especially compared to the new NSX's and 350Zs...

Also...I wonder if Calling it the GT500 will cause issues...isnt the new hot mustang coming out called the GT500...not to mention the original Shelby.
TrueSlideXL
Sc430's are beginning to get track time now. The Supras IMO are cheating now because they use V8's and that is very drastic compared to the "closer to stock" competition.

they will probably get sued for calling it the GT500

I like the looks of the new NSX better...

I dont like the exhuasts, then again, l would really like to see a production edition first.

I like it though it could look a little more original and little less like the s2000

I miss toyota's straight six though.

I am excited about all the new V10's coming out.

ps Trueslide, how could tell that the tires were skinny, at least from those pictures, the back tires looked fine to me. Perhaps in others they look small, I haven't checked.

Once it's been 'toned down to what the public can handle' it'll probably look better.

Fronts: 245/40R19
Rears: 285/35R19
Not that it's skinny, just very low profile in the pictures. For comparision an SL65 has upsized tires in 19" and it doesn't look nearly as thin.

if you look REAAAAALLLY carefully below the taillight in the black mesh zone there looks like a big fan or turbine of some sort. What's up with that?

And this could very well be the most borning exotic supercar... thank you Toyota (I like the back).

Cooling fan? Turbine?

I kinda like that you can see it.

I hope the production interior looks like this: http://www.dieselstation.com/wallpapers/Le...Concept-022.jpg

Thats where the radiators are, and those are cooling fans.
Frederf
I still don't know what that fan is. The interior is very cool, except two things:

1. The hugely bulky headlight and wiper stalks.
2. The gauge cluster is spectacular except blue LED light is the most irritatating, grating light on the planet. Normally you could rheostat the brightness down, but it's an LCD computer monitor basically so cannot get as innocuous as traditional backlit guages in that color.

Well it is a color lcd. I'm sure you can switch it to some kinda nightmode like what sat navs have. Also being that we're in 2006 I bet you can change the guage colors too ala Ford Mustang style

Also given where the fans are located, I'd say intercooler fans maybe? C'mon Clarkma's brother you're disappointing me here!
Frederf
He got the car smarts I got the... fashion sense?
