Ok, I got my contraption set up today in my car and hooked up my nice Canon camcorder (instead of my olympus) and went up into the mountains for some hijinx. Anyway, video is a wmv, 46 megs, 10 minutes long; enjoy!

interesting to say the least, it was a good vid. even though the camera shifted on its own in the beginning. thanx for sharing it with us!
clarkma5
Yeah, the tripod moved a little bit when I accelerated/turned aggressively.
BankieVR6
im not a huge fan of the last camera angle, looking into the console, doesnt really do much. other than that its pretty cool.
clarkma5
I was trying to get a shot on the gauges; but the glare won out. I kept that shot it in for the engine noises, really.
Cyclone
Did you replace the exhaust on your car or is it stock? Because it sounds pretty damn good
rio
I like how we can hear you muttering to yourself.
Cyclone
Yah he talks to himself a lot while driving
clarkma5
I do a lot of talking to myself; I never realized how much before I made these videos. tongue_orig.gif

And my exhaust is dead stock.
5LiterMustang
haha, some guy honked at you.
clarkma5
yeah, I meant to cut that part out but I forgot about it until it was encoded and I just kinda decided it wasn't worth the effort to re-encode the video to cut that out.

And it was understandable why he honked at me...at that point I was running about 65 in a 35 zone as I blew by him with my engine revving like mad biggrin.gif
RedLine
Reminds me of Need for Speed when you passed that guy and he honked at you. smile.gif
clarkma5
Except in Need For Speed (Porsche Unleashed specifically) they swerved into your path as you were going 180 MPH and caused you about $60k worth of damage to your 911 Turbo tongue_orig.gif

Is Porsche Unleased good?
clarkma5
Porsche Unleashed remains my favorite racing game ever released, yes.

My favourite Gran Turismo. My favourite Need for Speed is the first one. The interior cock-pit was an amazing feeling.

I admit I haven't played a lot of racing games...the only GT game I played was GT3 which I hated, and I've played NFS 3, 4, and 5, wand I hated 3 and 4 but I love 5. Colin McRae Rally 2.0 has its charms, but I really like Mobil 1 Rally Championship and I'm quite fond of TOCA 3...but Mobil 1 and TOCA are both much much more technical than NFS 5; Porsche Unleashed is a really relaxed and fun kind of game with a great balance between easy arcade physics and realistic physics.
BankieVR6
i LOVE gran turismo 3, its awesome. you can cater it to newbie drivers who need plenty of assists and traction controls, or you can use a wheel/pedals and set it to full sim mode with some of the most desirable cars ever. i love it and i dont think any racing game ever compares to it. 185 cars, 100's of championships and challenges, its so friggin fun.
clarkma5
but the complete and utter lack of physics! It offends!
BankieVR6
lack of physics? apparently you havent played that game much. it has some of the best physics in the genre, i think you didnt really get a feel for them playing with just a controller with the TCS and ASM on. you probbly didnt have a great car either.
BankieVR6
its esteemed as having some of the best physics of any racing game ever. you just know how to set your car up and drive like you should. its not crazy like NFS games, its techincal, and beautifully so.
clarkma5
I played it a couple times, once with a controller and once with an (admittedly crappy) wheel/pedal combo. The damn car didn't react the way it should've, and had a nasty habit of flinging itself into walls at the slightest tap of the controller, not to mention nasty bits of oversteer when low-speed turns are attempted.
Cyclone
Best physics ever? GT3? Hah! GT3 has some of the worst physics of any racing game I have EVER played.
DakianDelomast
I don't think we're talking about the same game here.. I mean its GT3. After playing that game I read magazine reviews of the cars i just drove... "oh yeah I guess it does have too much power, oh i suppose that it doesnt have enough responce... Wait a sec... I just PLAYED that!" GT3 is a game where you REALLY have to know the mechanics of a car and understand how to tweak suspensions to be good at it. Its so realistic that it pisses people off and turns them off when they just want to play a game.

You have to drive like a racecar, you have to hit the apexes, you have to master your brake points, you have to maintain smoothness. No its not that it doesnt have enough physics, its that it has TOO MUCH.

Oh yeah: "Beep Beep" "Oh shut up."
BankieVR6
exactly. now the rest of you, shut your traps and talk to me again once youve gotten at least 90% complete in GT3.
wild_willy
GT3 is the best car game i have played, but sadly they never bring anything anywhere near as good as it out on computer. My understanding of it is that it is the most realistic racing game in the world. Anyway back to the subject of this post, you must of had fun drivin. I found it pretty funny when the guy honks and you go, "Oh shutup". hehe you sure showed him

Project Gotham Racing 2 is due out in the middle of November. I'm working on finishing up the first one right now. It's been my favorite racing game so far If you don't count Pole Position
BankieVR6
project gotham is a totally sweet game. granted it isnt entirely based on reality, i dont care, cause its so much fun to play. its a good challenge as well, unlike other arcade racers that are simple or impossible.
RedLine
I got Porsche Unleashed and I want all the cars! sad.gif
clarkma5
You just have to work at it...there's probably cheats, but theres no need to do that because the game has a built-in cheat!!! biggrin.gif

You just buy used cars, fix them, and sell them and you make a pretty substantial profit...granted, it feels kinda cheap, and I actually found th egame more enjoyable when I was racing for all my money, but in order to speed up the game (especially through the boring 356s) is to buy used cars, fix them, and sell them. Once you get to the 911 in '65 your love for the game automatically quadruples. thumbs_up.gif
wild_willy
i agree. the first era is pretty boring, and when you finally get some decent fast cars the game is so muh more fun, unless of course for some reason you start going really bad and the computers keep making you crash and then you gotta spen $40000 fixing your car:(
