Some people say it is better fot the transmition and the engine , if you shift a lot" change the gear"

and some say it is better to stick to one gear.

and i am talking down town , not for long distance .

well it will obvioiusly be worn down more if you are constantly doing unnecessary shifts, but you don't want to bog out everywhere as you can create vibrations that are not kind to your car
arnge
Yes the vibrations , do they hurt the engine ?
Phix
If you stick to one gear you're gonna destroy your fuel economy... depending on fast/revs you're doing, anyway.
arnge
So it is just fuel ? i am taking about a 12 valve 1000cc tongue_orig.gif

so it is not that much.

they can. vibrations can cause all sorts of damage depending on the frequency etc...and the engine is only designed to handle certain kinds (like when it was under load and not bogging out). they can also damage your transmission and any mounts over time. i mean, it's not like your engine is going to blow because of these, but they don't do it any good. the most it will do to 99% of cars is break the tranny or engine mounts

I use my "sport shift" all the time *shrug*. I don't see how a part designed to shift would be harmed just by doing so.
