LinkageThe wife and I put in an offer for this house yesterday and got some papers signed today stating our interest. There is another couple also making an offer on said house. If we're higher than them and the seller accepts our offer I'll be joining the ranks of homeowner.
Is it sad I already have my lawn mower picked out?

We paid $100,000 for our 2,200 sq. ft., 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath 1 story house.
Houses in Texas are reletively cheap compared to other places.

$659k for our 2100 square foot, 4 bedroom 3 bath tri-level. Now that out remodel's done it's probably worth nearly a million.

I had a rather serious discussion with my boss and he's originally from San Jose. We talked a bit about it and my future but I still think I'm CA bound. So I did a web search for the houses and they're hella expensive. I'm hoping the pay will scale accordingly
Here she is in front of the Volkswagen.

True, when in CA the houses are more expensive, but the pay's better, but I don't think the pay quite covers it. If houses here are 5 times more expensive than what you have in Alabama, then jobs pay twice as much, maaaaaaybe 2.5 times as much. Not to mention that increase in pay will bump you up a tax bracket or two, so less of that pay is take home.

It's a 2-car but I'll probably only ever put 1 in there and it won't be one that gets driven daily.

That's about what I expected but if/when we move it'll be for the long term so I think putting up more money for a more permanent residence is justifiable.

The Link Works for me. After highschool, me and two other buddies are going to buy my buddie's sister's house which is $12,000!!!! .... it's kind of in the "ghetto" and it has 1 room, a bath room, a kitchen and a livingroom. Comes with dryer and washer, fridge and oven. so, 4 grand each.... price is in CANADIAN. The house is so ugly, but it will be pro. I think three people is going to be to many though... I think we will have a fold out couch-bed and a room and a air matress, we gotta plan it out, but so far I think we are 90% we are buying it.

Haha, you should seriously move to Canada then. My house is big as that and it's only $100,000. It's also been professionaly decoroated 3 years ago, has an outdoor porch, and an ally garage.

That view kinda sucks but there's no house out there with someone trying to peek into my window.
Also, our bid for the house was higher than the other people that wanted it, by only $100. However, they did not qualify for a loan of such an amount so they're out. But, the seller was wanting more than we offered but we're sticking to our guns on this one. Probably won't hear anything until Tuesday.

Manitoba has pretty decent prices for houses. My house was $110k in 19997 (4 bedroom bungalo, 2 bathrooms, pool, 2 car garage, 1 acre back yard) ... we've added a bathroom to the basement, added another bedroom to the basement, added a 15 foot long bar, got new roof, new pool lining, new carpets upstairs.
We just got a new insurance estimate, if we had a fire the property alone (without stuff inside) is worth $240k Canadian.

When we bought it, it was a dump. Weird colored carpets (brown living room, purple/blue/red bedrooms, except the basement were new carpets... which is my room har har), ugly ass walls with a bunch of holes from those idiots putting up pictures without fixing drywall after, underground pipes for the pool were broken, the lining was falling in and had air bubbles. Shitty windows, which we're still replacing.
Things left to fix:
-driveway needs paving
-kitchen design is kinda crappy (cubberts and stuff needs changing)
-main bathroom needs new stuff too
end spam

Took the in-laws over to check it out and talk with our realestate agent. Man the more I think about it the more I like the house. Hopefully we'll hear something on Monday or Tuesday at the latest.
We're gonna push back the new car purchase indefinitely. Maybe 05 Mustang or the 300C will be out?

Lafayette, Louisiana sucks, but its pretty cheap. My home is 2800 square feet and cost us 99k in 1987. I dunno how much its worth now. One thing I do know, is I hate the interior because its extremely dark with brown and yellow colors dominant and you have to turn on multiple lights just to get decent brightness.
