Hello everyone. I've been looking at this site and finally decided to become a member. Well, I guess I should introduce myself.
First of all I'm 16, for those of you that care. I go to a worthless private school you probably don't want to know about that's located near the Washington D.C. Metro Area. I got my license near the end of September and luckily, I haven't destroyed anything yet. For those of you that want to know what I drive, prepare to make me your #1 idol. 1996 Volkswagen Passat stationwagon, GREEN, turbodiesel. With a peak horsepower of 90 at a staggering 3750RPM, and a solid 149 lb.-ft. of torque @ 1,900, nobody can step. The best thing I love about this beast, is that it's a 5 speed manual. I'd rather drive the slowest manual on the road and keep my dignity, than to drive an automatic sports car.
Well, I guess that's all you need (or would like to) to know...

Welcome, cool to have another VW Owner/fan. I've heard the B4 Passat wagon diesels get the most incredible mileage...what's your experience with that?

Yea, they do get incredible mileage. I average about 45mpg on a normal day, and I have to refuel about once every three weeks, even less sometimes. I've heard that if you shift at low revs you can get around 50-55mpg. I haven't tried it though because I don't like hearing my engine beg me for power.

Define "Washington D.C. Metro Area" that's pretty large. I used to live in Rockville, MD.

Well.. alright. I live in Fairfax County, breeding ground of mindless dipshits with way too much money.

And hi. I like automatics. That's because I can't drive a manual. That's because I have not yet had an opportunity to learn. That day will come when I can afford another car.
The car in my avatar is stick, but it's not mine, it's my father's. Have you ever used the clutch on a Z car? I tried once. I didn't do very well.

Learn already, why don't you!? Your dad has three cars with stickshifts!

Two of them are 30+ years old have the aforementioned racing clutch. The third is too expensive to do that with.
I think I've told you this before, but I basically want to get something along the lines of a ~93 ~Honda ~Accord stick and learn on that. (I'm very open as to the car. Just something cheap and used and stick.)

'92 GTI 16v. And once you're done learning, give it to me and I'll restore it.

She's not white!! I think she's Brazilian or something, but damn she's incredible. About the driving stick issue, you can always sign up for one of those driver's courses that teach you how to drive stick, they usually suck but at least you'll learn.

i think its best to drive somewhere with the person you're trying to teach. they drive the auto to the destination, you drive the stick (knowing already). then, you switch cars, and theyre on their own for getting home. they better just grit and bear it, cause unless they learn stick, they ain't gettin home. theyll be gauranteed to have at least gotten it down, maybe not perfected. or, your clutch will have fallen out of the car, and theyll be stuck there. always use cell phones

Hey man, it wasn't my choice...
If I could choose anything (realistic) I'd probably go for an '04 S2000, a Nissan Z, or an Infiniti G35 Coupe, all in black.

Are there little 1 hour sessions with instructors on how to drive standard? I'd like for them to supply the car, because my dad's POS old Mazda manual truck sucks. Needs moar hydraulic clutch.

I learned to drive stick in an "old" Mazda pickup myself, and if there was one thing it had way too much of, it was hydraulic boost.
Probably a different model year...
