HOLY SEX!

Top Gear proudly presents an exclusive look at the new Aston Martin Rapide. It's the sexiest four-door we've seen

Good God. Is there no stopping this man? Downstairs, Aston Martin's third design chief in five years, Marek Reichman, has still to get all four doors on his new Rapide concept, Aston's fifth new car inside 12 months.

Meanwhile upstairs, Dr Ulrich Bez, Chairman and CEO, is already talking about the yet-to-be-seen convertible Vantages and the hot Vantages that are, like the Rapide, not far away from the showroom.

He's making a point, of course, Bez is always making a point about something. Right now it's all about Aston Martin's ground-breaking 'V/H architecture', or what the more proletarian car makers might call 'a platform'.

V/H, a glued and riveted extruded aluminium tub with a backbone of carbon fibre, is what the Rapide is all about.

At its most basic, the Rapide is a long-wheelbase DB9... but only in the same way a Vantage is a short wheelbase DB9. That is, in its heart and soul, not the same at all.

Looks awesome. But I happen to like the look of four-doors in general.
idiot
sorry to say but it's fugly as hell, it just doesn't look right, especially the rear lights, wtf? it doesn't go that well with the trunk

but that girl in the last pic is hot smile.gif

I don't find that this is all that bad. I like how the handles blend in with the res of the car.
BlackJack
wow!

well, replace the rims with something else less-chrome and you got your perfect candidate!
milkmandan
I'd take that over a Bentley Flying Spur any day.
McKhaos
Next step for Aston Martin : a SUV to rival the Cayenne .
MARK MY WORDS . THEY WILL BUILD IT .

Also , I'd give the brunette in the last pic a pancake . canadian.gif canadian.gif canadian.gif canadian.gif canadian.gif

Wow, I like it!
The centre console looks a bit bling, but the combination with the blank wood looks quite good. I'd like to see some more interior shots.

a DB9 with 4 doors...real original...

looks like the designers just got really lazy
Mr b00st
why do they all have to look exactly the same? That is infuriating.

Kinda like Volvos?

It looks nice and all... till you get to the back. sick.gif
Jordan
or Porsches?

i like this. the Porsche Panamerica or Panmera will give this some competition I am sure.
clarkma5
IT...JUST...LOOKS...TOO MUCH LIKE A DB9.

I mean, attractive enough, but Aston's design studio is so conservative that they make a tweed jacket and a tobacco pipe look like teenage drug paraphernalia.

I'm curious what kind of leg room is in the back seat.
bobo27
Looks alright from the side with that babe there, but just on a side note, I would love for Aston Martin to redoo the interior of my car, just looking at their recent instrumental pannels and gauges on their current cars makes me drool.
bing5500
I love this design...I even like the back.
TrueSlideXL
Anyone have the full size media pics? I am going to rasterbate that tonight.
høgh
It just looks wrong with 4 doors. Kinda looks like a bad chop, or like the designers got lazy.
NorthPoint
Fantastic profile... a little weird looking from the back. ... and where is the Lagonda badge? If it's a four door it should be badged a Lagonda, not Aston Martin!

Another photo...

A 5-door hatch, eh.

Aston Martin says you can fold down the rear seats to the point that two 6 footers can stretch themselves out.

By the way, ugly car in the sense that it's nothing new except for 2 more doors. Whoop-dee-doo. rolleyes.gif

ya I have to say, while ill defend a coorporate image till im blue in the face, this is just going too far...bring some originality to the 4 door market.

perhaps this was a last miniute thing...like "oh crap, we need something for detroit...slap some doors on a DB9 and call that blonde with the red dress!" and dosent atcually represent what its gonna look like.

That's the Top Gear photoshoot.

Austin Martin?

I really should ban you right now.
clarkma5
Fortunately, mods can't ban.

But seriously frederf...you know better than that. Or at least you should.

Do you two call each other by your DS names IRL? tongue_orig.gif
clarkma5
No, I just decided that using his real name on the forum was bad form.

Frederf
Sorry about the Austin Aston thing, Sanchez. Just it's hard to spell for me.
"Say Aston Martin."
"Ni-ine...elleven?"
"Ast-on"
"Nine?"
"Martin..."
"Elleven?"
clarkma5
You spelled eleven wrong.

Thats just amazing... couple looks and four door practicality.

Looks weird having four doors on what we've always known as a coupe. But i'm sure it'll grow on us.

I came.

I swear to god, the only two things that drive me to be wealthy are Aston Martins and shiny clothing.
PAULIE_D
That bamboo wood trim looks phenomenal when viewed in person. Trust me...

Every time a new Aston concept is released it gets flamed for looking too like the rest of the range. All im gonna say is line up the Aston range and I can tell them apart, do the same with Porsches and I will wont be able to.
clarkma5
If you get the Aston models side by side I can tell them apart somewhat easily, but identification when they are seperate can be difficult for me even though I'm fairly knowledgeable about them.

Porsches are totally easy for me, but of course I can spot the tiniest details on those to identify model years and stuff, not just the model itself, so I'm hardly the typical porsche spotter in that regard. Then again, Porsches have the benefit of being totally different body styles, while Aston just makes a bunch of big coupes (or in this case, a sedan that is trying to look like a big coupe).

I mean, ok, if you can't tell a Boxster from a 911 from the straight ahead view that is somewhat understandable, but if you still can't tell them apart from a side profile or rear 3/4s then you're an idiot, plain and simple.
350Z
The two porsches that would catch me out are the 997 Carrera S and the 997 Carrera 4, unless I could see the back of course.
Frederf
Doesn't the 4S have the turbo front unlike the C2S?
