Let's build a DS car. Why? Because I am sick and bored.
What we need-
Engine options
Engine Layout (front, mid, etc.)
Car Design (2 doors, 4 doors, hatch, wagon)
Wheels
Tires
Interior Design
Basically everything you need to build and design a car. We can then design from paper with the ideal specs...etc.

well, this car may be sold in regions that have inclimate weather, so it may benifit from AWD. also, for maximum space, it should be a wagon ..
just a thought ..

With an electronic diff to transfer max power to rear wheels. 100:0, 50:50, 0:100 sorta thing.

forged all aluminum 6.0L DOHC V8, 550hp, variable valve timing, direct injection
front engine but behind the front axles
3 seater, driver in middle like mclaren F1
CCW wheels...9 inch in the front and 11 in the rear with proper tires

carbon fiber tube chassis
solid rear with this suspension setup

double tubular wishbones in front
huge slotted/cross drilled ceramic brakes all around
all black interior, leather racing seats, white racing gauges (no digital display)

Whatever it is it better have a large-displacement straight-6 that revs to the moon

Or a fiery V10. Those are probably my two favorite engine configurations.

I say
-Coupe
-Turbocharged Renisis engine, mid mounted, driving rear wheels.
-6 speed Manual tranny
-Fully independent suspension at all 4 corners
-Carbon fiber body, mounted to an aluminium chassis
-6 piston calipers up front, clamping cross drilled, slotted metal rotors, 4 pistons in the back
-2 seats, driver focused cabin, with minimal apointments...Airbag, 4 point harnesses, basic ventalation system.

Yeah I love V10's I suggest we steal Porsche's Carrera GT engine and claim that we had it first.

motor: 2.5L 60 degree V6, aluminum block and head, direct injection, twin turbocharged, front-mounted intercooler. Power should be more than adequate- perhaps 330 bhp. But a linear power curve and strong low-end torque.
Powertrain layout: front (longitudinal) rear wheel drive with rear-mounted transaxle for good weight distribution
Drivetrain: rear wheel drive in normal conditions, but all wheel drive when needed. (rear-biased AWD, patterned after Nissan's ATTESSA-ETS PRO) with electronically controlled limited slip rear differential, torque-sensing center differential. 6 speed conventional manual with short throw, very accurate shifter.
Suspension: double wishbone front and rear. Really, is there a better way?
Body: 2 door hatchback coupe. A small grand tourer, smaller than a CLK but larger than a TT, with a narrow greenhouse and rakish lines that are creased but not square. Sharp, handsome, modern- a combination of Honda S2000 and Renault Megane.
Interior: see "honda accord EX coupe"
Seats: I don't know, but not an ugly black and red recaro like they put in every f*ckin hot hatch in the world. Perhaps something like the well bolstered chairs in the Acura TL.
wheels: Volk TE-37, 18x9, 255/40/ZR18 Pirelli PZero Asimmetrico
30+mpg highway, good low end torque, screaming top end, a cultured sound, balanced weight for good handling in the twisties, a GT with sports car blood in the veins.

Right because it doesn't already weigh more than many suv's.

Motor: 2.0L V4, about 200hp nice and revvy
Engine Layout: Midship mounted, RWD, 6 speed MT and LSD
Car Design: Tiny, short wheelbase, two door coupe and/or convertable
Wheels: 15" SSR comp's for cheaper tires and light weight
Tires: Falkin Azenis for street and Kumho V710's for track
Interior Design: simple, but elegant. real calibrated gauges.

No arguing. Everyones opinion will be counted. Hell, maybe we can make our own vehicle line-up, and price everything. Just getting various ideas and then try to design it on paper. Yes, original design, though queues will be taken from other cars.

Well, in relation to what? Honda has had successful V4's in its motorcycles for almost 20 years now. The V4 concept in cars hasn't been explored since Saab with its two strokes (as far as I know). I think with modern design and manufacturing a V4 could be made that has more torque and revs higher than a standard I4. It'd also be easier to package, with an appropriate transmission.
Mr b00st

Saab V4 replaced the two stroke.
The V4 was a decent engine but a packaging nightmare.

the ultimate car should definatley have a V10. it shouldnt be some little affordable sport coupe like milkmandan is talkign about... thats affordable performance not ULTIMATE car material. ultimate to me would be it needs to be able to go to a track and kick some ass, but also be civilized enough to drive to work. so to me its not going to be a stripped out racer because that would suck to do other things besides track visits in. it should have at least three seats, rear or all wheel drive, mid engine, 18 inch wheels, ceramic brakes, V10 @ around 550 horsepower, at 500 lb-ft of torque redlining at 9800, electroncially elevating suspension so you can raise and lower your car a couple inches to clear garage entrances and stuff, leather seats with adujustable bolsters to you can make it tight for track or looser for city or everyday driving, heated AND cooled seats. and the whole car is keyless. to get in you press your finger on the underside of the doorhandle and it reads your print and unlocks. to start it you press an ignition button and it reads your print and ignites. those locks that lock when you reach 13 miles an hour. thats all that i can think of right now
