so My neighbor put a "for sale" sign on his mint 1989 Audi Quattro Coupe...I have dreamed about owning a Quattro coupe since i was a wee lad, and I am now in a delema...I just got rid of one of my RX-7s...and the other one is moving to a friends house, so I have space...and the guy wants peanuts for the coupe ($5000 CDN)...
what do ya'll think...its like the WRX of the 80's...a great piece of rally history...

Jesus christ you guys its not that cool. Group B was over before this car came out so its not a homologation special. Its just an old rusty turbocharged 5 cylinder AWD 80s car that's going to break a lot.

Nov 20 2005, 10:12 AM
its not rusty, there is not a single molicule of Fe3+ on the entire car! It has 40,000km...all lady driven (it was his wifes car...)
its red...and I think im going to buy it...but im going to ask him if i can put down a deposit now...and buy it in the spring (it would be too hard to sell the SC430 before winter...)
does anyone know where to get body pannels for this car...if i do buy it I'm going to spend some time on logging roads in North Western Ontario...(best place for non-mountain, rally-style driving in canada! When I was a tree planter, we would spend the evenings setting up rally courses, and doing time trials)

It's still rare. A lot of unreliable 80s cars are collector's items...look at the F40, or Buick GNX

Disapointment
I took the Audi Quattro for a test drive today and...
The car is imaculate! no dings, scratches, rust or anything, the interior is more of the same...decent power...cool sound...but:
its an automatic!!!!!I didnt realize until I got in and looked for the clutch...why oh why did it have to be an automatic! Im still thinking about it...but for the cost of converting it to a proper manual, and the aggravation this car would cause me in any situation I would choose to use it in now (highway cruising asside) I dont think is worth it.

that plan was derailed by the wife finding out how much my current car collection is worth...and what a cayman costs ($85,000CDN)
new plan is to buy a mint 911 from the 1971-1973 era, and sell all of my other cars, asside from the Subaru.

just fucking buy it. i would take this anyday over your sc430. and, i'm sure there is some way that you can change the drivetrain from AT to MT. you did say that you were thinking about getting rid of one of your FD's, right? i'm sure with the money from one of those you can get a new gearbox.

First of all, with such low milage it is an allmsot once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a skyrocketing asset. BUT PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION....it will certainly wipe a few grand off its worth. Just live with the auto.
Secondly, qhat year model is it, cause i've read that pre-1982 examples are rarer than all others. There is an in depth article on them in issue 79 of EVO, if u can get your hands on one. (it's got the two TVR's in it)
Good luck
Mitch
P.S. Many old women drive stick.....there is a women living round near our place, she drives an old Mazerati and hammers it around. Dad has also seen an old ferrari (he thinks it was a 250gt calafornia, however I think there are none in AUS) drivin by an old lady. Plus I know a lady (in her 60s I reckon) and she drives a manual 993 Turbo
