I have pretty much decided that i am going to get a G4 Powerbook ... Now my general specs are ! GB RAM, 128MB Video RAM, 15" screen.
The question i have for you guys is .. should i pay $135 for the Superdrive or should i just buy a $100 external DVD burner ? My question comes from the fact that the old superdrives didnt burn dvds too well and i dont know if the problem still persists ... plus i can use the external burner on the PC as well.
So what do you guys recommend ?
H8ters go away.

I went with a combo drive on my 14" iBook simply because I have a burner for my PC. I would imagine that the new superdrives work better but I honestly have nothing to back that up with.

I never had issues with my powerbook being slow.
Ever.
Well except when the Harddrive crashed.

Get the superdrive. You'll love it when you are ever on a trip cross country and want to watch a movie... or something like that.

Combodrive plays DVDs just fine. Its great for transportable medium.

The only plus point of a Superdrive is i can burn DVDs anywhere i want ... BUT its that much more expensive and i believe it adds to the weight of the laptop too.

the weight difference between the combo drive and the super drive is so small that you won't notice. Or it should be, since thats the way it was for my fix drive on my Latitude C840.

Oh .. one more thing .... Is the extended warranty really necessary with the G4 .. i mean at 300$ it does through a bit of a monkey in my plans

vlc will play any video i have (except wmv's), try going into window and opening it manually
VLC is good for almost all video codecs..

i hope you will be getting the extended warranty (apple care) its really worth the money imho.
they replaced my old powerbook's screen for free, and my current powerbook's battery for free too. all under warranty.

I would get the apple care if I were you (actually, I did get applecare) because I've heard with basic warranty apple can be a bit of a bitch for fixing things. Plus I have multiple friends with G4 powerbooks who have had small issues with them such as busted latches and whatnot. I haven't had a single problem with mine yet *crosses fingers*

I have had my iMac since 2000 and no problems. I have had my iBook since 2001 and only had one issue which was under warranty. Hopefully, no other problems but I recommend applecare. It can be a PITA without it and you would get denied quicker than a fat chick at Victories Secret.
