Lincoln set to kill off LS after '06 model year, production to end next May
AUTOMOTIVE NEWS
Posted Date: 8/30/05
The Lincoln LS will be killed after the 2006 model year.
Production will end in May, Ford Motor Co. told employees at the Wixom, Mich., assembly plant, where the car is built.
The rear-drive LS got off to a promising start when it was introduced in 1999. Lincoln billed it as a combination of European performance and American styling and comfort. It was supposed to kick off a makeover of Lincoln's stodgy car line. But other new cars were canceled as Ford Motor's financial crisis unfolded.
The LS languished with little exterior updating, and sales fell from the nameplate's 2001 peak of 39,787. Last year, Lincoln sold 27,066 units of the LS. A replacement for the LS, developed on a front-drive Volvo platform, is scheduled to arrive in late 2007.

they look outdated now. they were ok when they first came out, but after about a year they started looking really boring and generic.

I'm not surprised. For the past couple years the LS has just sort of been there. It's not horrible, but nothing special either. Too bad it's going FWD.

Don't talk to me. DON'T TALK TO ME.
You don't think I HURT INSIDE because Ford owns Jaguar, Aston Martin and Land Rover? You don't think I WANT TO like the Range Rover Sport? Do you think this is easy for me when Aston Martin is my favorite car brand? Huh!? Do you?? You don't think I like the look of the new XK, or have wet dreams about the V8 Vantage!?

Actually I bet the Jag XJ is more of a replacement. I guess they just want to turn lincoln into an old people brand.

Are you inferring it's for hip 20-somethings as is?
Yeah, this was lincoln's best car, but that's not saying much...it still wasn't very good compared to, for instance, the competition.

No. The LS may have been a crappy car but it owns the Deville both in terms of driving enjoyment AND cool.

i disagree. lincolns will never be as cool as cadillacs, except the 60s continentals with suicide doors
LSs look like typical rental cars, they are just too generic. they could pass as mercurys

no way dude, as far as gangster cars go a tank like the deville wins
they aren't supposed to be sports cars, neither is the LS. they both perform like shit, it's all about just having a tank to cruise in.

Other caddies may look cool, but I look at the Deville and think "retirement home", even in black, even with cool wheels. The LS actually has SOME presence.

The only folks I've ever seen in Lincolns are old folks and mafia dons, and they both prefer the Town Car. I've never seen a Lincoln LS on the road.

This is a lackluster car nobody should miss. Lincoln builds cars as poorly as Toyota and Mercedes do these days. I'll let you judge which of the aformentioned has improved and which hasn't.

A lackluster car, maybe, it certainly became outdated towards the end. But it was still the best thing Lincoln produced.

There's lots of stupid in this thread.

The LS is a pretty sweet car. One of the reasons we didn't get one was the price. Perhaps their target market is a little older and more successful than we were at the time. I've driven the V6 which was surprisingly quick. I think it's strongest attribute was the ride. While not quite as "marshmallowy" as my dad's Town Car it is easily one of the smoothest cars I've ever driven.
I hate to see Lincoln further bastardize their lineup with another WWD.

we were gonna get one, but my dad laughed when he saw the interior considering how much we were gonna pay and decided not to. We got an X-type 2.5 instead, not much better but was a lot cheaper.
Ford has to get some cars in their own lineup that are decent cars, the brands that they own seem to be doing just fine.
