Thx all for the nice comments.

Really sad that your trip fell exactly into the most unfortunate time with only one week left and no open weekend at the Ring. But I'm sure if you can come again to Europe we can make up for it.
This applies to anyone else who is in Europe, of course.

Yes, Varano is in Italy, near Parma where the famous Parma ham and Parmesano cheese are made. This was in fact a big drive for me. Its about 650 miles from my home and we went there with a trailer and towing car (the Volvo), had to go through Switzerland and the Alps. On the way back we passed the Alps exactly when Switzerland was struck by heavy rain and floods so the St. Gotthard tunnel was closed and we had to climb over the San Bernadino Pass. That meant frightening oil temperatures in our towing car and torrential rain for several 100 miles. But all went ok luckily.

Hehe, your impression is wrong. This is my first race this year due to the car repairs. Our club had races in Spa, Hockenheim and Dijon this year but I missed them all, sadly. My favourite track, the Nurburgring, is no big deal for me though. 80 miles from my home.

And yes, I have to work

Varano is ultra cool. It is really a good track to get better knowledge of your car because most corners are pretty slow. You can throw your car into a corner and if you lose it its pretty simple to catch it. The 2nd Esse is a bit tricky because it is at higher speed and in the rain you have big and deep puddles in the apex. The only frightening corner is the Ickx Chicane because you approach it pretty fast without a big runoff area and you don't want to think about a brake failure at that place.
