rain sensing windows and convertible tops!
when it starts to rain, the sensors pick it up and automatically roll up your windows if they are down, closes your sunroofs, or raises your convertible tops automatically! It would need to have some type of jam sensor so if anything gets caught.. it'll stop and roll back down. And most of today's hard top convertibles would be a cinch to have everything automatically open, unfold, and automatically close the roof.
what do you think? shouldn't be too hard to make huh?

you would also need a speed sensor attached .... plus it would have to be "Always on" feature otherwise its totally useless.

Jul 14 2005, 07:03 AM
yeah... it would only work when it's in Park obviously. and of course.. always on.. today's batteries could take it.

Volkswagen already has a system for this that turns the wipers on. It doesn't work too well. And you couldn't have the hardtop folding over as the car was in motion. I think it would be more annoying than anything else.

Just open up the top, and it would be like a parachute, and slow the car down to the speed to fold the top up. O_o

Yes , but what if the car is a MANUAL ?
That would kinda fuck up your entire plan .

Renault have Rain sensing front window and light sensing lights. also you could spit on the roof and it would go up.

Then how's it going to draw the power to work everything? That would mean that the car would always have to be on an active circuit and you would drain the battery.

Yeah , imagine parking your car for a couple of days with the roof down and return to find your battery drained and the car wet inside because it rained after the battery died . That would really suck .

omg.. you guys are retards. lol.. how do CAR ALARMS work? how does LOJACK work? what about AUTO DOOR LOCKS?
the sensors don't use much power.. and the only time it'll draw anything significan is when it's rolling up your windows and closing your roof. the rest of the time.. it's just like anything else.. stand by mode.

I've seen rain sensors for sunroofs, so i'm sure there's already something going out there for sensors on convertible tops and/or windshield wipers.

i actually mentioned this before to someone several years ago. I also had an idea of some sort of high powered fan like contraption that would blow off all of the water on the windshield when it rained (like at the end of a car wash)

See if Moe has thought of it you can be SURE its a bad idea Diesel.

alright, so it's always on, works only when the car is off, now what if you want to wash your car?
what if you drive on a wet road and water splashes on your car and then you go park it?
it would get annoying..
depends where the sensors would be though

I might be able to understand the use of htis ... say....
You park the car with the top down and you go inside the fuck the girl you're having an affair with. But oh no... mid-fuck it starts raining and you don't want to pull out just to put the top up on your brand new DB9 Volante but the sensors do the trick.
Yeah, bad idea.

I've got an idea for an invention:
charcoal filtered underwear.

diesel - rain-sensing windshield wipers are already invented. im sure windows and softtops would just be an innovation. cool nonetheless.

WHAT???
do you wash your car with the top down? and if you're driving and it's wet.. then you stop.. it's not gonna think it's raining.. it's gonna think your car stopped with water on it.
rain sensors work by sensing tiny tiny drops of water dropping on your car.. or something.. i dunno.

well you handwash it, and yes lots of ppl always keep their roof down so why put it up to wash it? if you're careful it's ok

all that can be solved by a simple manual override.

i dont know diesel, there are so many variables with an automatic water sensing roof. I dont think it will work. at least not for another 10 years or so.
