My birthday is Tuesday and I am thinking about buying an ipod mini. Tell me the good and bad things about them. Do I have to use itunes or can I use any of the mp3s that I have?
I do not want any replies saying simply to buy another brand of mp3 player as I do not care about what you have to say if that is the case.

I'm pretty sure you can put any MP3s you want on an iPod. My friend has an iPod mini... in pink. Yeah, we make fun of him for it but he says he didn't want to wait. That fag. Anyway, they're really nice and sound really nice, too.

you technically need to use i tunes to put music on, although you also can with hidden folders on the hd but thats dumb because itunes works so well for it, and it updates your ipod with the newest/best firmware.
Only downside i can think of is they have no radio tuners but thats it. They are great machines, not just popular for nothing you know

Do the regular ipods have radio tuners and how well does it work if so?
PHiX tell your friend I said hes a fag.

the new ipod has pseudo radio sorta thingy ... basically it downloads online radio episodes and you can then listen to them when you want ... so in other words it doesnt have FM radio.
the new iPod is upgraded to iPod photo

and try to use student discount on apple site for additional savings

I've loved both the iPods I've owned and my 60GB one is absolutely great. I love using iTunes, just because it's so easy and straight forward. You can also use WinAmp now though, they have plugins for that around the net.
I'd try and go for a regular iPod I think. The color screens are great and I can't stand the older ones anymore. You also get a lot more storage for not too much more. Although then again that depends on which model mini, the 4GB or the 6GB.
Podcasting is nice, and I would never use the radio if I have it. I just think if you're carrying around that many MP3s, why do you need to listen to the radio? I subscribe to a few podcasts though, and everyday it updates them to my iPod. It's mainly ones with new CD releases and what not, then others are just some comedy things.
And Phix, ask your friend why he wouldn't just wait. He got the absolute worst color possible for a guy, anything would've been better than that. And I'd definitely try and trade with someone if I got stuck with pink.

trail, I'll call him a fag twice today instead of once.
Boxster, heh, he's a lazy shitlicker, that's why. But the thing is he also got a deal on it... or so he claims.

I have a 6GB Ipod Mini. Can use any of the MP3's you have, load them using iTunes... and it's basically foolproof, and simple.
I don't see the appeal of a Radio... the whole reason I wanted a mp3 was so I didn't have to listen to commercials and other garbage that is radio.
... and pink? lol... like what's the problem. It's not a gay color or anything. I hate it now more then ever because every fuckin loser that wears it thinks their the shit.
i guess thats my 2 cents.

iPods cost more because there's a lot more in them in terms of quality. I've had mine for about a year and a half now and its run beautifully the whole time. I have the old 20 gig model and even today after all its use I still go at least a couple days without a recharge. Probably about 7 to 8 hours of playtime.
For bad. They seem to have issues with Windows computers. Mine still works because it operates off a mac interface. But between Windows and the iPod I've noticed a much shorter lifespan. Random lockups, bad batteries, and the like all seem to plague people that use iPods with their PCs. So take it for what you will. The new iPod photos have an onboard radio tuner but current ones have addons that can play radio.

I'm actually really satisfied with my iPod's quality. I have a second gen, and it hasn't died on me yet. I'm noticing something that's wrong with the volume control, but it's not bad.

No you don't. Just plug the iPod into the USB port and your computer should read it as a removable hard drive. To prove so just click my computer. Then once open you can drag and drop the songs into the folder.

it is very easy to use. it looks cool. the quality is actually not bad. BUT they get scratched up pretty easily, it costs A LOT for the amount of features that you are actually getting, i can't stand i-tunes because it always gets screwed up, if the 'pod breaks after the warranty expires you are in trouble, and the battery is complete garbage compared to others.
