Full Version: Update on knee repair.

It has been 9 days since the surgery. While in surgery, they had to do an "emergency" repair of my meniscus, and they didn't let my parents know untill afterwards. So my parents were freaking out, because th surgery was only suposed to be 1 hour long, and it ended up being 3 hours long. I will not be able to walk on my leg for 2-3 more weeks. My knee is the size of a grapefruit, and because of swelling around some damn nerve, I cannot feel half my leg, and most of my foot. I cannot move my foot up, or to the right, and when I try to get my knee to bend down to 0 degrees, It makes my shin feel like it is on fire. On top of all that, one side-effect of these painkillers is that it makes whomever that takes it constipated. Well, let's just say the last time I went #2 was the day before surgery. I also cannot drive, basically because my I can't lift my foot up,so I would press the gas, and ....... well... that's it. I would have to use my left foot to press the brakes, whilst pressing the gas. All I can really say is that this is 74827167596048367265 times worse than I thought it would be, and it is like that because of the damn meniscus. If he didn't have to repair that, then he said I would most likely be walking again.
Mr b00st
its better than having the fucker cut off

now the challenge is, go see if you can get laid with that grapefruit in your pants. should help.

I was on Lortab for a week when I broke my arm and the no shitting deal was a plus in my case! I couldn't reach it to wipe so no biggie. I thank God for my wife and her "action above and beyond the call of doody" when I got off the painkillers. Shitty job but she said the view was ok.

half a decade ago i was down with typhoid and in the hospital in sorta serious condition so the docs got out the big guns. The damn pill stopped my shitting completely for more than a month. later they had to give me super lax just so that i wont have a toxin buildup due to the lack of pop release. sad.gif

i sympathise.

Thanks for all yoru kind words, and putting disguisting images that I didn't need to think of in my head. I got 0 hours of sleep last night, becuase my back was throbbing. Oh yeah, great news everybody, Nismo also has Scoliosis. What the hell else is gonna happen?
Jordan
do you have little white spots on our finger nails? because it sounds like with all these bones breaking, and scoliosis, that you have a calcium deficiency. and white spots on your fingernails is a sign of that. you might also try taking Ferrous Sulfate tablets (iron pills) it will increase the iron count in your blood and give you more energy and it will make it easier to develop your muscles so your bones dont break.

I wouldn't worry completely about scoliosis, my old doctor has scoliosis and he his fine.

Nope, no calcium defficiency. Just really really really really really bad luck.

it has to be somthing with your life style... i mean bones breaking and bones growing in an unnatural curvature have a correlation. what does your doctor say about all this?

I play competative soccer. I run (well now ran) at least 2 miles per day. It's just luck. And I haven't broken any bones. O_o
moe89
Scoliosis isnt always related to a previous complication, but if it is, it is usually because of a back injury. Alot of the time it is caused by genetics.

Okay, well today I went to my second physical therapy appointment today, and I felt the worst pain I have ever felt in my whole life. I had just gotten a cast done of my leg for a foot brace, and he had just finished teh fiberglass cast. Well, when he finished, and left, I had to get the knee brace back on. All my mom did was barely pull up underneath my knee, and I just felt this HUGE shock of pain. I just started bawling my eyes out. It hurt that bad. I don't even know why it would hurt soo much. I could not believe the pain. I have been attacked by a bloodhound, and the dog bit a golfball sized chunk out of my calf, and it didn't even hurt as much as just simply pulling up underneath my knee. Now, here's the catch. Originally, my meniscus was not even damaged. My physician gave me a knee brace taht he told me to wear whenever I play soccer, or run, or do anything active like playing a sport. Well, I always forgot to wear it, and I blew it off. Well, I found out had I worn the brace Like I should have, I would not have torn my meniscus, and I would not be in anywhere near as much pain as I am in now. Whenever I stand up, it feels like my shin is on fire. When I use the crutches, and I have my leg hanging down, the weight of that is excruciating. The bad thing is is that I have nothing to do all day. I wake up around 6:00 am from my back pain, and the percocet wearing off on my knee. I "watch" the 6-7 o clock news, and then watch the today show. As soon as I am fully awake, I float around the pool a little. Then I go inside, and there is nothing to do except watch daytime shows, order PPV from Directv, or try and find something interesting on T.V. I have my comuter with me all day, so I go online pretty often. I still haven't booted up my PS2 to play any GT4. Then I might fall asleep again, then wake up around dinner. The I eat, and watch TV. Then I go to bed whenever my pain permits me to. My girlfriend is in Ireland for some fucking reason, so she can't come over.... for obvious reasons. Most of my friends have jobs, and would rather not sit around and do nothing with me. It sucks. It totally sucks. I felt better before my surgery.

Footnotes: Nismo's life is a living hell.

oh crap, man .. i just read this entire thread and from an outsiders view, you've got a case of bad luck .. but, scoliosis is mainly a genetic thing, isnt it?

i thought a meniscus was the little dome of water caused by surface tension when you fill up a cup/beaker all the way to the top. huh.gif
Phix
QUOTE
Also, the meniscus is a term used to refer to one of two parts of the human knee. The knee contains a lateral meniscus and a medial meniscus, and both are cartilaginous tissues that provide structural integrity to the knee when it undergoes tension and torsion. In sports and orthopedics, people will sometimes speak of "meniscus surgery," or a "torn meniscus," and be referring to an injury to one of these two pads.
