COPENHAGEN (AFP) - Seven Peugeot 307 cars have caught on fire or partially melted for unknown reasons while parked with the engine off, Peugeot Denmark revealed.
"We have found exactly seven cases" of Peugeot 307s that have either caught fire or partially melted, the company said in a statement. All of the cars were two years old.
Noting that "even though the risk is slight", the group urged owners of 307s to "take precautions: do not leave children or pets in the car for an extended period."
Peugeot Denmark specified that the problem had not occurred while the car was being driven.
"Several technical teams are trying to determine the cause and looking for a solution to repair the potential problem in all cars that could be affected," it said.
Peugeot Denmark said that it believed that fewer than one of every 1,000 307s in Denmark was affected.
According to Danish broadsheet Berlingske Tidende, two other similar cases have been reported in Sweden since February.
