OK new topic. I'm goin to need somethin to do over the summer to keep me busy. I've found a guy who has a sand rail for sale. He wants 800 bucks for it. From what I hear it doesn't have an engine. I need some ideas for engines. Its goin to be a side project for me and my dad. I've been told a VW engine. Tell me waht you think.

get an 80's one you'll only make like 175hp and 260lb.ft and it will sound better than a VW engine.

I doubt I would ever have my front wheels on the ground. So much weight and power in the rear

well you're not gonna lift the front much with a high horsepower engine. maybe with enough torque, but it's not like you can really get a bunch of traction in sand. you just want something that will give you a fat roostertail

Well they got those huge sand flappers of a tire they can get alot traction. I've see tons of them on 2 wheels

but why have a 500lb engine that makes 175 horsepower and uses more gas?
it's a sand rail.
Go with a VW engine.

YOu'd want the front end to run light in the sand anyways.
But probly go for an old VW engine IMO. Depending ont he size of this thing

Air cooled VW motors are quite popular and can be built very powerful. I'd get one of those.
