Ok, I just got back from seeing and driving the Volvo 1983 242 Turbo. My impression was excellent. The paint is perfect, the wheels arent curbed, no dents, no scrathes, very shinny. Inside, the leather is very worn, and torn in a few spots but its expected from a 22 year old car. The dash board is perfect expect for a heat crack down the middle, which i didnt notice untill my dad saw it. the gauges are great, it even has a turbo gauge in it. 4 speed manual with push button over drive. air con works. 6 disc cd changer, keyless entry and alarm. four wheel disc brakes, new rubber on the rear wheels. car is is good condition. the guy is asking 4300 freakin dollars. my dad knows it isnt worth it. i booked a 1985 4 door Turbo in kelly blue book. i did that because it was the closest i could get to the actual car on kelly blue book. i put in all the options it had, and it gave me a private party value of 1,205 dollars. what do you guys think? tell me waht you would pay for the car.
Forrest
Pics would help decision.

But definetly not 4300. But most sellers these days are idiots and think their 20 year old honda, volvo, toyota, etc.. is worth so much because of the brand.
Jordan
pics would help, but i didnt bring my camera! head.gif Zero rust. the only thing wrong with this car is the crack in the dash and the leather.

Modified 245's go for 2g's. laugh.gif

4300 is WAY too much! But i doubt anyone would buy it, so maybe you have some say in how much you are willing to pay
Jordan
my dad just called around to his "people" and considering the truly great shape of this car, we are going to offer 2600 for it.
Jordan
oops. the car is a manual... not an auto. i fixed my first post... sorry.
McKhaos
Even better .
snakefood
manual is much better!
Jordan
waiting for the word on our offer...

i need some suggestions about the seats for this car. i was thinking of re doing the leather, but i could get a pair of racing seats for the same price, maybe even cheaper. it would update the interior a bit, and be much more supportive than the old flat seated leathers. the brands that pop into my head are

bride
momo
recaro
sparco

anyelse? also, how much do these run for? i found an ok looking new pair of brides for 450 on ebay. but i didnt really like them. any help, thanks.

those are really expensive seats.. maybe you dont need such high quality racing seats.. i know id kill for them but at this point in my life, i dont know if i need them.. maybe look into subaru seats? i know the ones in my car are insanely comfortable. theyre the bucket style seats and made of cloth. very supportive on the left and right sides like where my ribs are and also on the "flat" part where you ass goes.. (i dont know what that part is called).. also, the lumbar area(lower back) is really nice on long rides.. supportive yet uber comfy
Jordan
well, its either seats that i like, or new leather all around. if i am going to get new seats, i want nice ones. i was looking at sparcos, but they apparently dont fit volvos. the seats are really bulky, it'd make it feel more sporty with some tight fitting seats. my girlfriend really likes them too, which is a damned good reason. i wish i could find some old GT3RS seats. the plaid ones. that'd be sooooooo cool.
Jordan
here are some seats that i was thinking along the lines of.

or some old school BMW seats. some fabrication would have to be done however, i doubt the bolts would match up.

those first two links, the MOMO seats.. are not seats at all.. they're a seat .. singular

just a word of advice, make sure that you're going to buy a pair of them (that is, unless you only want one) and not to get fooled
Jordan
yeah, i saw that. thanks for making sure i knew.

i have decided against those, because they are one peice. so no reclining, since they are on ebay, i couldnt sit in them to make sure i like them. i am 6' 2" and i have a really long torso, not all seats are good for me.
z0ne
you lanky kid. lol.. go to a modification store and sit in some.. or go to a bimmer dealership, sit in an ///M3 and steal the seats late at night. (good luck if you choose plan cool.gif

Backslash backslash backslash M three, yo.
Jordan
ok. this seat issue has developed rapidly...

after some thought, and some stupidity. i realized, why not just but some replacment 242 seats... so i looked on ebay and found a great candidate...

booooooo

dont get those.
DZ302
you are going to be kicking yourself in the ass for your decision to buy racing seats in about 6 months if you ever drive for more than an hour at a time

didn't read that part before i posted

good decision
Jordan
yeah... i am notorious for getting ahead of myself. this car is still relatively iffy.
turbobrick
The most I'd pay would be $2500, mabey up to $3000 depending on the condition. The 242 turbos are harder to find the the 4 door sedan and wagons.
Jordan
Ok, my dad offered 2700. The guy said he wont go below 4000. Which is ridiculous. My dad works for Chrysler of Puyallup and the head mechanic there has a 240 wagon. i dont know if its the DL or the Turbo. But its 2000 even. Its a mechanics car so its in great shape mechanically. the interior would not need replacing and is in great shape. it is a two tone paint color. that awful volvo brown on bottom, and from the belt line up is black. might be cool inperson. i'll have to see. its also a flat hood, which are rare in america. kind of adds a little more cool factor.
it is however.... sadly.... an automatic....

you will deal, just like i did lol.. its awesome sitting in traffic not having to clutch.. fucking new jersey turnpike.
Jordan
oooh, yeah you have an automatic. i guess its not that bad, easier anyways.
camshaft
Manuals are better in everything but traffic, I would really try to shoot for one, but...I dunno, your decision really, I guess.
Jordan
i would way rather have one, but in the end, its my dads descision... ( he is the buyer here ) last month my dad sold 19 cars, so he wants to buy me a car.
turbobrick
Well, if you do end up getting a volvo 240 turbo, the first thing you need is sway bars from ipd. The 240, at least the later non turbo models, had a really soft suspension for a better ride.

300zx seats are an easy fit, requires little modification.
Jordan
so i found another prospect. it looks HOT too.
