What are my options here? I'm looking for a good convertor so that I can run 640p or 1080i on my monitor. I want real 640p and 1080i modes here, not a stupid upscale convertor as those really detract in quality. Also the box or whatever has to support 640i upscaling so that the menus and stuff are visible. And/or so I can play other PS2 games on the lcd even if they dont support hdtv resolutions.
What are mah options here people?!

the easiset option would to try and find a tv tuner card that supports either s-video (640p) or component (1080i) or both, you could get a stand alone converter box too, but i believe that would be more expensive

ATi has a HDTV TV tuner card, but it only has S-Video OUT, not in. There's also adapters for hooking up the DVI or analog out off your video card to a HDTV, but not the other way around.
I think you may be outta luck.

nobody has a component in tv tuner card yet. or at least i haven't seen any when i was researching. if you do get an hdtv tuner card.. it's still gonna be going through a coaxial input. and it won't decode encrypted hdtv like from your cable tv or anything.. only stuff thats over the air hdtv.
so.. i'm not sure how you're going to solve this issue.. i was in fact looking at trying to do the same thing, and the only solution i saw was that the new Del 2405FP monitor has component In on the monitor itself. You can then just get a component PS2 adapter and hook it up. BUT i heard from people who have tried this that the image quality sucks. You end up with the screendoor effect.
