The vast majority of these vehicles were built by professionals. Many were from big-name tuners. Most performed as if they were constructed in a shop class at a high school with a lax drug policy. Once, after a suspension component fell off a car from a big-name tuner, the car actually handled better.

What useless drivel..

I believe it's aimed at Civic drivers.

it seems like he tried to modify his car, then failed miserably
now hes telling all of us that modifying is wrong, lol

Standard Edmunds fare. edmunds isn't quite in tune with the enthusiasts, but they're better than, say, Consumer Reports or a similar publication that views cars as appliances.

Isn't that what modifyers and tuners are?
But really nowadays cars are already good stock. Like his example using the WRX, it's already an excellent car with great handling.

Was there a point to that?

I dont know about you, but this has stated EXACTLY what I've been thinking. There is a tradeoff here:
A)Make a car that is good without modification and you win the hearts of most buyers, but kill the dreams of the tuners

or

B)Make a car that could use modification greatly and is appreciated by the tuner crowd, but is later discontinued because it sucked on the showroom floor.

what should be done is this:
(option C): Make aftermarket parts with warning labels on them saying "WARNING, ADDING AFTERMARKET PARTS DOES NOT IMPROVE PRACTICALITY(if I spelled that right)"

"I'm guilty of modifying cars. Mea culpa. In an effort to improve a very sweet handling sport sedan, I added the biggest antiroll bars and stiffest shocks I could find."
laugh.gif And he's lecturing on NOT tuning cars? If he actually did his homework maybe he would have gotten parts that complimented his car and driving style. Adding the stiffest shocks and largest antiroll bar isn't smart at all.

Yah but it's usually what most tuners do. I think thats the point hes trying to get at. Most people don't research the stuff before they buy it and throw it on their car.
