Full Version: I need a new mouse

Well I have had that cheap Microsoft basic optical mouse since a few years but now it seems like it's acting up. Sometimes it disconnects for like 1 seconds, just like if it was losing signal, I hear the USB *beep* of Windows, then it's back. I tried with another USB port and it's still doing it...

I guess it's time for a new mouse? Or should I try something to fix it before?

I can't believe how fucking expensive they are, I don't want to pay more than $40 CAD before taxes for that!

So I could buy the same shit I had for $15 and I looked at others, but there's not many choices, I found the Logitech MX500 High Performance Mouse. It's $60 at one store, and $35 at the other! So I think it could be quite a deal since Logitech themselves list it as $40 USD!

Oh BTW, It needs to be corded, I don't want cordless stuff, anyway it wouldn't fit in my budget.

I think I had one logitech mouse before, it worked well, is anyone using that model? is it good?
Renesis
bump! I'll go to the store soon dry.gif

mx510 if ur a gamer, and its not that expensive. The 500 seems nice too, haven't heard much about it.

I myself have a mx700, its quite good, its nice in my hand. But its only for right handed ppl, so that couild be an issue.

Logitech is great. While I don't own that particular one I do have the OLD OLD OLD OLD OLD Mouseman Wheel Optical or whatever it's called. It's been rocking for 6 years and I still can't find a mouse I would replace it with.

Go with what feels good. Can't go wrong with Logitech, IMO.
Kip_666
Yeah, good advice is to try every mouse at the store and see what its like. Just like speakers.
Renesis
Yeah, it seems very wide compared to what I have ATM, I'll have to see I guess. And I'm not a gamer with my mouse, only with my wheel! biggrin.gif
Cyclone
I've got an MX500. I love it
Renesis
Alright, I bought the MX500, at the Futureshop store it was listed at $59.99 I was like WTF! it's $34.99 on your website, he checked and it was really that price, so I was happy. smile.gif

BTW Cyclone, what's up with the "acceleration" setting? without it it's always too slow, with it on low, it feels jerky and unprecise sometimes... huh.gif

clarkma5
LAME. Shoulda gotten a Kensington Pilotmouse Optical Pro biggrin.gif
Renesis
wtf is that, they didn't have such shitty brands!
clarkma5
>:O

Kensington's great. I love my mouse.
Renesis
Mine's better!

BTW Cyclone, how do I keep the pointer visible while typing? I can't find that option, although it dissapears only in some programs
clarkma5
Lies.

Although I do like logitech (except their keyboards blow).
Renesis
I've got a Microsoft keyboard, you can see it in the pic above

And YOU should have gotten another Logitech with the glowing blue logo! tongue_crossed-eyes.gif

They were impossible to find! I looked and looked and looked for weeks and couldn't find one! They had been discontinued!
Renesis
I wish mine had some kind of light on it sad.gif

Get a Wacom tablet! I love it and it works great with my Alienware. biggrin.gif

I hate the Logitechs. I don't like the high arch as I don't put my whole hand on the mouse. Just my fingers.

Mine:

MS Intellimouse v4.0A

Sure, it may only be $25 and have only 5 buttons, but it rocks. cool.gif

And to answer previous question, acceleration = when you're moving your mouse along, it speeds up the longer you move the mouse, i.e. the mouse starts moving faster and faster. I hate it and have it off, which is default. Just turn up your mouse speed if it's too slow.

@clarkma: what's wrong with their keyboards? I have thier Elite one and it rocks.

Just today i picked up a new optical mouse from Sweex for $6,50. It isn't to bad

ive been running my logitech cordless duo for quite some time now, it has the mx700 mouse... pretty excellent mouse IMO, great comfort for someone who rests their hand on the mouse often (especially when browsing forums for hours wink.gif) and i like a heavier feeling mouse, which it is. rechargable is the name of the game when it comes to wireless, batteries seem so outdated.

The ownage position. I don't have to move my wrist. I just use it to pit and I bend my wrist around to move my mouse.

Pics if needed when I get back.

I also use that mouse position, its much easier for browsing and First Person Shooters.

*pivot, not pit

And yeah, I'm a huge ass FPS player, so that's probably where I got it from.

Control Panel/ Mouse/ Pointer Options/ uncheck the box next to "hide pointer while typing"

I have a Logitech mouse at work... weel, its a Dell-badged Logitech...

But at home I have a Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Elite. It rocks! Had it 12 months now, no problems at all, and changed the batteries in the intellimouse just last week when they died after 11 months' use!

See, it even looks good. IMHO Microsoft's keyboards and mice are the nuts - last for ages and hardly ever go wrong - plus I like the weighty mouse smile.gif

I had an MS IntelliMouse Explorer for 3 years till it died. Got a replacement from MS a year ago and it was still going strong till last week, when I replaced it and my water-logged keyboard with this:

Logitech MX3100 - the most uber-est mouse and keyboard set available, probably. MX1000 laser mouse, and a very, very nice keyboard. Did consider the above MS set, but it's not that great for gaming and MS keyboards are generally very hard to type on - the keys take a lot of effort to press. I just generally find Logitech keyboards and the software superior.
Boxster17
I hate the setup of somethings on the MS keyboards like the whole F-lock crap, and how the normal F keys aren't on by default. Ever since I've gotten a logitech set I've loved it, and haven't had any problems. And I play a ton of FPS and have never had any problems with this 'high arch' that others are complaining about..
