"EE?" electrical experience/epertise(sp?)?

anyway, thats a pretty cool idea, but, if anyone here was going to try it, just make sure you are careful soldering it .. i got burned when i was modding my case..

Edit: i think i may try this with an old clock i have.. it wasl ike 4.99 at target and i want to put it in an old case i have that i use for a LAN server

Actually from the looks of that, its a very simple mod. I know jack shit about EE but desoldering the LCD looking thing from the board and soldering leds in the solder points looks very straight forward and easy juding by looking at the traces on the board.

Pweeease? C'mon, if you translate it, I'll do it. I have a case like that.

That looks super easy actually. Hell, I'm a mechy and I bet I could do it.

The original display was basically big, long LEDs. A wire per elelment.

Example, an 8 is really this: (ignore the periods)

You just asign each bar to a couple LEDs that reproduce that bar and you're set.

They're called 7-segment displays. He pretty much just took two regular LEDs and wired them together to the output for each segment.

Oh, and screw using UV light and all that crazy stuff for etching your board. A paint pen is what I always use. thumbs_up.gif
