BMW X5 Security Plus Concept 2013 Review

BMW will be presenting at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show an armored concept of the third generation X5 dubbed - the 2013 BMW X5 Security Plus Concept, a highly successful SAV.

The BMW Concept X5 Security Plus is the only vehicle in this class which fulfills the requirements of protection level VR6 by offering protection against violent assault, kidnapping and organized crime. This model therefore meets the needs of risk-exposed private individuals and prominent public figures with enhanced security needs and was conceived primarily for regions like South America, Africa and Russia.

The armored concept is based on an armored passenger cell constructed from high-performance steel mouldings and panels which offer secure protection for up to four occupants against an AK-47 attack, world’s most popular firearm. It is occupied with a specially developed security glass that can resist to attact by blunt weapons, while the sealed joints provide protection against bullet or fragment penetration. The polycarbonate coating on the inside of the glass provides effective protection against flying splinters.

It is powered by the powerful V8 TwinPower Turbo engine producing 450 HP (330 kW) sent to the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system. The chassis, electronic management systems and brake system have been optimally adapted to the increased vehicle weight.

BMW has also developed a further version, the BMW X5 Security, which meets the requirements of protection level VR4 and provides reliable protection against general street crime.
